Sam Newton: Florida Highwaymen Artist

(Sam Newton Highwaymen painting above available for $1,200)

In the 1950's, their was a group of 26 African American artists that painted landscape art, and sold their work along the Florida highways.

They used artist oil paints, tree easel, and painted crown molding for their handmade frames, and the trunk of their cars for their office. They sold these works for $15 to $35.

They now sell for thousands of dollars, and Highwaymen paintings grace the halls of the Florida Governor's Mansion and other State Buildings of Florida.  How about your home?

The story of the Highwaymen's art will hopefully go from the Upsom board to the Silver Screen; as production assistants at Disney have already put out the trailer to the movie from the Stars North production company.

One of the most skilled "Highwaymen" artists is Sam Newton.  Sam began painting in 1962 under the tutelage of his brother Harold, when he moved to Florida from Georgia.

Sam's paintings are known for their quality and craftsmanship, wonderful details and his great use of color.

Most of the "Highwaymen" painted 18" by 24" paintings.  Sam painted on larger boards, of either Masonite or Upsom Board, and these detailed paintings of wonderful Florida scenes are much rarer, and very collectible.

Come into my store, and you will be able to look at some Highwaymen art; it's a great story about Florida, the art will look wonderful on your wall, and these paintings should also prove to be a wonderful investment, as the story of the "Highwaymen" gets told!

Andrew
