Sam Newton: Florida Highwaymen Artist

(Sam Newton Highwaymen painting above available for $1,200)

In the 1950's, their was a group of 26 African American artists that painted landscape art, and sold their work along the Florida highways.

They used artist oil paints, tree easel, and painted crown molding for their handmade frames, and the trunk of their cars for their office. They sold these works for $15 to $35.

They now sell for thousands of dollars, and Highwaymen paintings grace the halls of the Florida Governor's Mansion and other State Buildings of Florida.  How about your home?

(Above if Florida Highwaymen artist Gibson with Governor Bush and Governor Christ.)
The story of the Highwaymen's art will hopefully go from the Upsom board to the Silver Screen; as production assistants at Disney have already put out the trailer to the movie from the Stars North production company.

One of the most skilled "Highwaymen" artists is Sam Newton.  Sam began painting in 1962 under the tutelage of his brother Harold, when he moved to Florida from Georgia.

Sam's paintings are known for their quality and craftsmanship, wonderful details and his great use of color.

Most of the "Highwaymen" painted 18" by 24" paintings.  Sam painted on larger boards, of either Masonite or Upsom Board, and these detailed paintings of wonderful Florida scenes are much rarer, and very collectible.

Come into my store, and you will be able to look at some Highwaymen art; it's a great story about Florida, the art will look wonderful on your wall, and these paintings should also prove to be a wonderful investment, as the story of the "Highwaymen" gets told!

Everyone's a Winner!!!

Went down to Homestead today to race in the FARA Homestead 200.  I was feeling really good before the race, and I told my friend in the pre grid before the race that I thought I was going to win.

So he runs over to interrupt the pre-race autograph signing with the trophy girl presenters to get a selfie, just in case I didn't win.

What can I say, it was his first race! lol

But everyone is a winner as we won!

It was a good time had by all!

A huge stash of 2,000 Gold coins was discovered by Israeli scuba divers

Near the Israeli town of Caesara, scuba divers accidentally found a huge hoard of gold coins. The coins are around 1,000-1,200 years old! The Israel Antiquities Authority (IAA) will conserve and safeguard the coins.

Kobi Sharvit, director of the Marine Archaeology Unit of the Israel Antiquities Authority, thought that this was probably a shipwreck of an official treasury boat on the seabed.

“The boat was on its way to the central government in Egypt with taxes that had been collected. Perhaps the treasure of coins was meant to pay the salaries of the Fatimid military garrison which was stationed in Caesarea and protected the city,” Sharvit said.

Israeli law states that any antiquity, that is dated before 1700, that is found in Israel, becomes property of the state. Therefore scuba divers  Yoav Lavi, Zvika Fayer, Kobi Twina, Avivit Fishler, Joel Miller, and Shai Milner--their only reward is just the discovery of the find and not ownership of the coins!

So much for "finders keepers!"
